Voice input
The message input area accepts voice input, typed text, and files. With voice input in DentroChat, you speak, the words appear in the message box, and you send when they look alright.
Record a message

The microphone is at the right of the message box. The Send button appears beside the microphone once there is text or an attached file in the composer input area.
- Click the microphone. The first time, the browser asks to use it. Choose Allow.
- Speak. The button becomes Stop recording, and a ring around it fills over two minutes. A small meter beside it moves with your voice.
- Click the button again when you are done. The recording also stops by itself at two minutes.
You need a online connection for the voice recording to work.
Check the words, then send
The message box shows Transcribing while the recording becomes text. Give it some time. If nothing happens for over a minute, cancel the transcription with the X button.
The transcript lands where your cursor was when starting the voice recording. That means you can decide where the transcribed text will be inserted, e.g. in between 2 paragraphs you’ve written before. Read the transcription, fix a name or wrongly transcribed words, and send it the way you send any other DentroChat message.
You can speak (almost) any language. DentroChat’s advanced voice transcriptions supports a wide range of European languages (English, Dutch, German, Spanish, Polish, …)
A quiet take works best. If the box stays empty after the transcription, move a little closer to the microphone and record again.
Dictate while you edit
On a computer, hover a message you sent and choose Edit. On a phone, tap the message, then Edit. The microphone in the edit message field works the same as the microphone in the main message input.
If the microphone stays quiet
DentroChat shows Could not access microphone when the browser will not open it. Allow the microphone for app.dentro.chat in the browser’s site settings, then try again. If it doesn’t work right away try to reload the page, or as a last resort try to close the browser and open it again. On mobile safari browser, users unfortunately always need to “give access” each time they start the voice recording due to a technical limitation of mobile safari browser.
